Nicholas and Nathan Cooper
I would like to introduce you to Nicholas, 5, and Nathan, 3, Cooper.
These young brothers live in Dallas, NC with their parents and
have a story worth sharing and worth being a part of.
In September 2007, Nicholas was diagnosed with Myleodysplastic
Syndrome (MDS), which is a bone marrow disease that progresses
into leukemia (AML). In February 2008, Nicholas began chemotherapy
and radiation treatments, and then on February 5, he underwent
a stem cell transplant at Duke University Hospital in Durham,
NC. Nicholas survived the treatments while his family stress
and anxiety that naturally comes with a serious illness. Currently,
Nicholas is thriving and recovering well at home as he and his
family prepare for the one-year post transplant.
On June 27, the Coopers took preemptive measures and decided
to have Nathan screened for MDS with a bone marrow biopsy. On
June 30, Nathan’s test results came back and he was diagnosed
with MDS. The Coopers faced a medically unprecedented case because
their doctors had never seen MDS in two siblings before, and
a genetic physicist was brought on board to assist as well.
The Coopers prepared themselves for the same grueling treatments
and procedures that Nicholas underwent.
The Coopers are overwhelmed with medical expenses and the subsequent
expenses of two young children requiring around the clock care.
The Coopers are planning to move from Dallas to Durham to be
near Duke University Hospital. Prior to Nathan’s diagnosis,
Todd Cooper drove to Durham every weekend to be with his family.
Please pray and consider what God would have you do for the
Coopers. Donations may be made to any local Wachovia
Bank to the Nicholas Cooper Fund and you may follow
their story on www.caringbridge.org.
His mom updates his personal journal regularly and you can read
back to the beginning if you would like. Thank you in advance
for being obedient to God and doing what He leads you to do.
